I believe that many Christians who accept the authority of the Bible should change their views about what happens after death. The view that the unsaved go to hell to suffer for ever and ever is particularly discreditable because it harms God's reputation. I am not convinced that many will change their beliefs because it requires humility to do so. There are plenty of Christians who admit to being sinners who cannot admit to being wrong. True humility consists of admitting that we are wrong. There are lots and lots of worthy Christians who find it almost impossible to accept that they could be wrong and the Seventh Day Adventists right where the destruction of the wicked is concerned. What I do think very reprehensible is to exclude from fellowship those who disagree with you on Biblical grounds about these matters. I know an Association who will not accept pastors and elders into fellowship who do not believe in the unrelieved misery and everlasting anguish of the ungodly following the Last Judgment. I have tried to let Scripture speak for itself. If I am wrong it is only through lack of judgment. Paul said, "If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1Cor13v2. Christians show the ultimate lack of love when they exclude others from fellowship over interpretations of Scripture.

A website that deals with some of the issues raised in this article in greater detail is: http://www.wordonly.com/ I thoroughly recommend it. It is Biblical and graciously reasoned.
